Funny things, reviews. I won’t lie, I refreshed my book page quite a few times, waiting for that first review to pop up. Being completely unknown, sales were slow, as you could imagine. A few friends bought a copy. I gifted a few copies to family members. Still no reviews.
That’s ok, though. I was more interested in my first unbiased review. A review from someone I never met. So how did I do it?
FREE GIVEAWAY!
I ran a giveaway through Amazon, racking up a total of around 350 total downloads. I had to get a review from one of them right? And I did.
I hadn’t checked my book page in a while, but something compelled me to check. And there it was, BAM.
I laughed out loud when I read it.
There it was. Three stars. “It was an ok book.” I think many authors might be disappointed with a review like that. Why not FIVE stars?! Four stars at least?! But I took it as a win. A review from someone who didn’t know me, someone who took the time to read all ninety-four thousand words of a manuscript from a first-time novelist. That’s pretty cool.
I don’t know who you are, anonymous Kindle Customer, but thank you. You took a chance. You took the time to click through and type those five words when you didn’t have to, click the little star widget. That’s pretty awesome.
